Billionaire Minecraft Inventor Tweets Becoming Rich Made Him ‘Isolated’, Gloomy

Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson

Markus "Notch" Persson, founder of the Mojang company and creator of the hit video game Minecraft is a new billionaire in the tech world. He sold his game in November 2014 to Microsoft for $2.5 billion, and recently bought a Beverly Hills mansion for $70 million. However, Persson posted several melancholy tweets on August 29, Saturday, revealing that hanging out with friends and partying with celebrities has left him feeling "isolated" and miserable.

Persson is a 36-year-old Swedish video game programmer. His Minecraft game was released in November 2011, and is now available on platforms such as Windows, Android, iOS, PlayStation 4, and Xbox 360.

The game designer explained that being wealthy has made human interaction difficult. It has also decreased his motivation.

Maintaining relationships seems to be one of Persson's biggest issues with being super-rich.  Surrounding himself with friends and famous people has ironically caused feelings of loneliness.

Persson explained that he can do anything now. However, this has resulted in issues such as who to meet up with, and how they will perceive him now that he is filthy rich.

He shared that he was in a romantic relationship with a woman but she was uneasy about his lifestyle, so she chose a "normal" person instead, according to CNET.

Persson also explained that when he sold his company Mojang, he took steps to ensure that Microsoft would meet his workers' needs. However, they all "hate" him now.

Many tech billionaires such as Bill Gates have dedicated themselves to philanthropy. However, the Minecraft creator explained that doing that would cause him to deal with people who caused him to sell his sandbox game Minecraft.

A full day after his Twitter posts, Persson thanked people who offered to meet up with him and talk about his issues. He revealed that making new friends is challenging for an introvert like himself.

Last year Persson explained that he sold Minecraft because he had unfortunately become a "symbol," according to PC Mag. He explained that he was neither an entrepreneur nor a chief executive.

Many of today's tech company CEOs have the chance to become incredibly wealthy in a short time, and at a young age.  However, when they achieve their goals it is often anticlimactic and causes them to lose their sense of self.
