Facebook is the CEO and one of the founders of Facebook.

The social network Facebook has reached the top app position in the United States, while Facebook Messenger app follows on the second position.

Facebook Messenger has displaced YouTube as the second most-downloaded mobile application in the U.S. in a not-totally-unexpected move. However, while Facebook has just two apps in the list of top 10 apps, Google accounts for five.

The social networking service Facebook has reached 73.3 percent of the app audience, ranking as the top smartphone app, followed by Facebook Messenger with 59.5 percent audience share, YouTube with 59.3 percent and Google Search with 52 percent, according to the latest report coming from global digital media analytics firm comScore.

Meanwhile, Twitter, Facebook's main rival social networking service, has moved up to number 13. WhatsApp, a social network that announced recently that it has hit 900 million monthly active users, still did not make it on the "Top 15" list.

Apple Music is ahead of Snapchat, being placed at number 14 in the list. The analytics firm comScore added in a statement that Apple, with 44.2 percent market share, is ranked as the top original equipment manufacturer (OEM). Google Android, with 51.4 percent market share, leads as the number one smartphone platform.

On the same segment of smartphone platforms, Samsung, with 27.3 percent market share, ranked second, followed by LG with 8.7 percent. Motorola and HTC are the next in the list, with respectively 4.9 percent and 3.5 percent.

According to the same statistics cited by Fortune, during the three months ending in July this year, nearly 192 million people in the U.S. are smartphones owners, a figure that represents a 77.1 percent mobile market penetration.

ComScore is a global leader in digital media analytics. The firm released recently its reports analyzing key trends in the U.S. smartphone industry for July.
