Cast member Jared Padalecki (L) speaks next to writer Jeremy Carver (C) and co-star Jensen Ackles at a panel for The CW television series "Supernatural" during the Television Critics Association Cable

"Supernatural" season 10 finale saw a mysterious new enemy called "The Darkness" being unleashed. A new trailer for season 11 of the hit show reveals that Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) will go through one of their biggest challenges.

Death (Julian Richings), who was helpful before the Winchesters eventually (wrongly) sent him off in season 10, said that "The Darkness" is an ancient evil that predates God, who only beat the imaginary entity by locking it away. By liberating Dean from the Mark of Cain in season finale, the brothers involuntarily unchained the creepy Big Bad back into the world, and therefore, the bodies are almost beginning to accumulate when the CW series comes back on Oct. 7.

Similarly, thing are seemingly bad for Castiel (Misha Collins), who attacked Crowley (Mark Sheppard under the influence of a spell in season 10 finale. The new promo reveals the angel appearing a bit worse for wear, but Sam is in the same situation as he tries to pray to God for assistance before ending up in a dire torture.

According to Variety, showrunner Jeremy Carver had this to say about season 11 at "Supernatural's" Comic-Con panel, "This year we're going back to a more epic feel with a Big Bad and a quest for the brothers to unite on."

Carver added that this year will bring a pretty special Big Bad since it will be a pre-Biblical story that has never been told before. "I think it's gonna be a really fun, epic feel, and the brothers are going to be really, really united in their need to take this thing down."

"Supernatural" season 11 will also feature Emily Swallow portrayed as Amara, a returning "femme fatale who is both seductive and sinister," TVLine reported. The main concern is whether Amara will be the embodiment of the Darkness, a different threat or a minion.
