It was initially announced that "Veronica Mars" star Jason Dohring will be joining "The Originals" season 3 as a smart, confident, and easy on the eyes detective.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Julie Plec said, You know what's so funny: I love ['Veronica Mars' executive producers] Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero, but I never watched 'Veronica Mars.' I only knew Jason Dohring because ['Vampire Diaries' executive producer] Kevin [Williamson] loved him so much on [the CBS drama] 'Moonlight.' And then I realized, he's Logan that everyone talks about from 'Veronica Mars. I feel like I'm very lucky to have the person that so many people fell in love with in the past decade."
Plec asserted that while Detective Will Kinney is "firmly focused" on traversing the busy city of crime, he may eventually find himself intimately involved on the job.
The showrunner went on to tease that the detective will spend much time with Cami (Leah Pipes), who might possibly catch the eye of the law loving character.
Fans of the show saw the two working closely in the photos from season 3 released prior to the Oct. 8 premiere. In the stills, viewers got a glimpse of the detective working at a crime scene as he conversed with Cami.
However, a concern is whether Cami's new association will result into tension between her and Klaus (Joseph Morgan). It is clear that Will's purpose is to clean up New Orleans and Klaus appears to be part of the mess.
Talking to TVLine in May, Plec said that Cami's relationship with Klaus will become a bit complicated in the next season.
The showrunner said, "It's not that it's going to be explored or unexplored; it just kind of a thing that exists under every interaction between them."
Plec added that the star-crossed lovebirds are possibly individuals who should not have fallen for each other.
"The Originals" season 3 will air on Oct. 8, Thursday on the CW at 9 p.m. EDT.
