For the longest time, Verizon's Moto X 2013 has been waiting for the latest Android Lollipop OS update. Good news to users as the handset started receiving the soak test of the said version of the operating system.
According to Droid-Life, A number of users claimed to have received the soak test that is rolling out in two parts, with the second part being the more substantial 712MB file that bumps the phone to Android 5.1. The final system version is 222.26.7.
Up to now, there is no concrete information as to when the OS update will be rolled out to the general public. However, the report added that if the test is successful, there is a big chance that the software will arrive this week.
This could be Moto X 2013's last Android OS upgrade as there are speculations that the handset will no longer be a recipient of the upcoming Android M Marshmallow.
According to International Business Times, Motorola will release the new Android M starting with Moto X Style (aka Pure Edition in US), Moto X Play, Moto X (2014), Droid Turbo (aka Moto Turbo in India), Moto G (2nd and 3rd Gen) by the end of December 2015 or early 2016.
Motorola, being a former mobile division of Google, has a good reputation for being one of the early adopters of the latest update as soon as it gets the Android OS source code. The reason why some handsets experience delay is the fact that carriers have to roll out the OS upgrade to the handsets.
