‘Captain Marvel’: ‘Edge Of Tomorrow’ Actress Emily Blunt Talks Playing The Role

Emily Blunt is rumored to play Captain Marvel.

"Edge of Tomorrow" actress Emily Blunt has shared her thoughts on the possibility of playing Captain Marvel.

In her interview with Indiewire, Blunt said that her name has been attached to Captain Marvel, since the list of actresses who could play the role is very short. The actress added that it is uncommon to see women in a superhero role, since there are only few who can operate a gun or do push-ups.

Blunt also cited names of other actresses who could play the role, such as Charlize Theron, Rebecca Ferguson, and Jennifer Lawrence, among others. For Blunt, they may have been considered to play Captain Marvel because they have already demonstrated their impressive combat skills in the action genre.

Previously, UFC fighter and actress Ronda Rousey expressed her interest to play the role of Captain Marvel. She said that she would like to play Miss Marvel, as several good superheroes had already been engaged. However, Marvel Studios has not given a comment about Rousey's enthusiasm in playing Captain Marvel.

As per Cinema Blend, Marvel Studios has its own casting process, thus, the studio could select a time-honored action celebrity to play the role or think in a creative way on how it will cast the actress who will star in its first female-led superhero film.

Since the film is in its early phase of development, exact details on the director, cast members, and plot are yet to be revealed. "Guardians of the Galaxy" writer Nicole Perlman and "Inside Out" writer Meg LeFuave are on board to pen the screenplay of the film.

Marvel's "Captain Marvel" is set to premiere in theaters in the United States on Nov. 2, 2018.
