Reports claimed that Apple will not include the A9X chip in the upcoming iPad Air 3 due to cost factors.

According to The Motley Fool, Apple iPad Pro was launched with the A9X chip but users should not expect the same chip in the upcoming iPad Air 3.

The A9X chip costs more to produce compared to the A8X chip as it has a larger die size and has more transistors as well. Apart from this, the supporting assembling for the A9X chip is also costlier compared to the humble A8X chip.

Earlier, iPad Air 3 was rumored to be equipped with the new A9 processor. However, in light of the above reports it is now expected to be powered with the A8 processor.

Apple iPad Air 3 is also expected to come packed with 2GB memory. It is also rumored to sport an enhanced 4K screen resolution with a 401ppi. These specs are also present in the iPhone 6 Plus. It is also expected to sport a water proof design and a dust proof body lining.

Apple iPad Air 3 is rumored to be just 5 mm in thickness, making it thinner than the previous iPad Air model. It is also expected that iPad Air 3 will be equipped with a USB Type-C connector along with the Force Touch Technology, in addition with the Taptic Engine Technology, according to BGR.

It is also anticipated strongly that this device will be officially called as iPad 7 instead of iPad Air 3, since it is the seventh iPad model to be released under Apple. This will also remove a lot of naming convention confusions.
