The release date for "The Incredibles 2" may just be earlier than fans expected, with a target premiere before "Cars 3." After more than a decade since the first movie was released, Brad Bird confirmed that a sequel is in the works, with the actual script at 75 percent done.

In an interview with Collider, Bird shared that they have already started doing storyboards. He added that most of the people who worked in the first film will also be involved in the sequel, explaining that he wanted to work with a relatively small team. He shared that it was easier for him to work with fewer people until everything has been finalized.

"The Incredibles" enjoyed tremendous success in the box office, earning more than $631 million worldwide, with a production budget of $92 million. It also earned four Academy Awards nominations, eventually winning Best Sound Editing and Best Animated Feature.

Fans were definitely surprised that Pixar did not immediately come up with a sequel given how successful the first film was. Speaking to Coming Soon, Bird explained that he did not want to do a follow up right away. He said that he wanted to have breaks in between and then come back to the film years later.

When asked about the plot for "The Incredibles 2," Bird shared that there are arcs in the first movie that they would want to revisit. He shared that there are several angles that they were not able to fully flesh out, which he thought would be worth considering.

Bird added that he wanted to create a unique connection between the two films.

"That's the one that took a little more time," he said.
