Google Unveils New Chromecast, Chromecast Audio

Tech giant Google recently unveiled the new Chromecast device along with a new gadget called Chromecast Audio. The new Chromecast will replace the first model launched in 2013 while the Chromecast Audio is a completely new device will as the name suggests will focus heavily on audio streaming.

Google made significant upgrades on the new Chromecast. The tech giant also gave the device a new look. Unlike the older black colored Chromecast which looks more like a USB drive, the newer model is round and will be available in several colors. According to PC Mag, it will be available in black, coral and lemonade.

The new Chromecast is still tiny which can be easily hidden at the back of a TV. It can be connected through an HDMI port and separately on a USB port of wall socket for power supply. Just like the older model, the device let users' stream media content from a tablet, smartphone, PC right into an HDTV.

The device costs $35 and many tech analysts consider it as a less expensive alternative to other streaming devices from Roku, Amazon and Apple.

According to The Verge, Google upgrade the Chromecast's Wi-Fi adapter in order to support newer standards like 5GHz 802.11ac. The new Chromecast also has three antennas compared to the single one in the previous model.

Along with the new Chromecast, Google also unveiled the Chromecast Audio. As the name implies, the Chromecast Audio streams audio only. It looks similar to the Chromecast but instead of the HDMI port, the Chromecast Audio uses a 3.5mm audio jack. One the device is plugged into a speaker and connected into a Wi-Fi network, it can wireless play any audio file streamed into it.

The Chromecast Audio will also cost $35.
