Marvel's The Vision Saves Paul Bettany’s Career

| Oct 02, 2015 01:56 AM EDT

Paul Bettany will reprise his role as Vision in Joe Russo and Anthony Russo’s upcoming Marvel Comics film “Captain America: Civil War.”

Paul Bettany's career in Marvel's Cinematic Universe would have been over until he was cast to play The Vision.

Bettany used to be the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S. before he played the Vision in Joss Whedon's "Avengers: Age of Ultron."

In his interview with Yahoo, Bettany said that he had got a phone call from Whedon, saying his career had been over. He added that while he was sitting on a sidewalk, Whedon had called him again, asking if he wanted a superhero in the next "Avengers" film. Then, he agreed.

According to Cinema Blend, Whedon insisted that "Avengers: Age of Ultron" should include Ultron and Vision, along with the desire to have Bettany play Vision. The publication added that Bettany had been always fated to become J.A.R.V.I.S.' physical form, but it actualized three years since he first voiced Tony Stark's artificial intelligence.

Along with Whedon's "The Avengers" and "Avengers: Age of Ultron," Bettany is also known for his roles in Ron Howard's biopic "A Beautiful Mind" and Peter Weir's action adventure "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World."

After his debut in Whedon's "Avengers: Age of Ultron," Bettany is set to reprise his role as the Vision in Joe Russo and Anthony Russo's upcoming Marvel Comics film "Captain America: Civil War," which centers on the release of the superhero registration act or the "accords."

The Vision is reported to join Iron Man's pro-registration side, along with Hawkeye and War Machine. On the other hand, Ant-Man, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Falcon, and the Winter Soldier join Captain America's team.

Directed by the Russos, "Captain America: Civil War" is set to premiere in theaters in the United States on May 6, 2016.
