"Cabin In The Woods" writer-director Drew Goddard said that he was not concerned about David Ayer's upcoming DC Comics film "Suicide Squad" having parallel premise with his "Sinister Six."
Goddard was set to helm a "Sinister Six" project prior it got scrapped by Marvel Studios. In his interview with IGN to promote Ridley Scott's upcoming sci-fi space film "The Martian," Goddard shared that a person might hear three things that were precisely similar to the one he was working on, but he should not be concerned about it because he would not accomplish anything if he did.
Goddard also mentioned that he just believed that he would make his work distinct, since different things have "cosmetic similarities."
According to Cinema Blend, the phrase "cosmetic similarities" was the best way to indicate the link between Goddard's "Sinister Six" and Ayer's "Suicide Squad." The publication added that though both films involve and follow a group of supervillains, they also have their differences.
The Sinister Six is formed by villains who despise Spider-Man. On the other hand, the Suicide Squad is a secret team of supervillains that have been captured by the United States government.
In exchange for general pardon, the team has to execute "high-risk" mission for the government. Small bombs were implanted within the members of Ayer's villain team, which can blowup should they attempt to escape or elicit trouble, hence the team's name "Suicide Squad."
"Suicide Squad" stars Viola Davis, Common, Joel Kinnaman, Scott Eastwood, Jay Hernandez, Adawale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Adam Beach, Cara Delevingne, Karen Fukuhara, Jai Courtney, Will Smith, Jared Leto, and Margot Robbie, among others.
Ayer's "Suicide Squad" is set to premiere in theaters on Aug. 5, 2016 while Scott's "The Martian" hits theaters on Oct. 2.
