After five Spider-Man movies, Sony was reportedly thinking of shaking up the Marvel Cinematic Universe by exploring a gay Peter Parker.  Mary Jane or MJ, previously played by Kirsten Dunst, will allegedly be played by a man in the new adaptation headlined by Tom Holland.

Although it is still yet to be confirmed if Spider-Man's love interest will be MJ or Gwen, multiple reports claimed that the studio is leaning towards the former. Movie Pilot pointed out Peter and Gwen's love story was extensively explored in the previous films. The outlet added that some fans wanted to know more about Peter and MJ's relationship this time around.

Meanwhile, Andrew Garfield recently revealed that he wanted the next Spider-Man to be pansexual. In an interview with Mic, the actor said that he did not care about Peter's sexual preference. His statement was in response to the leaked Sony documents, in which it was mentioned that the superhero must be portrayed as "Caucasian and heterosexual."

Garfield explained that he did not know the contractual obligations when he signed up for franchise. He, however, hoped that the film will be more open to diverse characters in the future.

Back in 2013, Garfield posed the idea that Peter could be exploring his sexuality in the next movie. He wondered if MJ could be a guy, adding that homosexual relationships were not unusual nowadays.

"Why can't he be gay? Why can't he be into boys?" he asked.

Garfield shared that he has always been "obsessed" with Michael Jordan, adding that they could have an "interracial bisexual" relationship.
