Sony’s PS4 Continue To Thrive In Japan, US; Sales Jump Due To Price Cut

| Oct 10, 2015 02:16 AM EDT

Sony's PlayStation 4 boosted their sales in U.S. and Japan after price cuts.

3DS systems have been overpowering Japan, but last week, PS4 sales came on top.

Sony's PlaySation 4 has racked up 46,177 units from the 4,071 sales from the previous week, according to Forbes. This has been a great accomplishment for the console considering the large fan base of 3DS in Japan.

At the same time, PS4 sales continue to stay on top even in the United States. In a new monthly report released by NDP Group, PS4 was announced to be the best-selling system in August.

In the report, there were no public records of the sales figures. However, Sony insisted on being the top system in the industry both in the hardware and software sales.

The price cuts helped Sony achieve the new sales milestone. This week, they announced a $50 price cut for North America. This has been an effective strategy in their Japan sales as well.

Sony also noted that their "Madden 16" franchise was the top seller for PS4. The "Call of Duty: Black Ops III" beta version also made a "significant milestone in our new partnership with Activision," PlayStation VP of Publisher and Developer Relations Adam Boyes told Gamespot.

Boyes added that they fell in love with "Black Ops" instantly. He told the publication, "As soon as I started playing it, I said, 'This feels incredible! You can wallride!' It's just so smooth; it's almost like poetic. And so obviously, we just continued talking with our partners at Activision and worked something out. And now we've got I think a great benefit to all the gamers."

Meanwhile, Sony is preparing for more launches this year and that includes the new games for PS Vita. As Forbes noted, Sony is trying to adapt to the Japanese market and they are opening up more game extension for toys.
