Model Involved in 2013 Hainan Sex Scandal Arrested

The ID of model Sun Jingya revealed that she was really Luo Yue from Hebei Province.

Sun Jingya, a model who allegedly made around 600,000 yuan ($94,920) during a three-day period by sleeping with several men in 2013, has been arrested in Nanjing in Jiangsu Province, according to China Central Television (CCTV) on Thursday.

Sun was arrested by police in June in Shandgong Province on the charge of allegedly engaging in prostitution and organizing prostitution activities.

According to police, there were 67 people arrested, mostly born in the 1990s. Some of those arrested were well-educated, with some even serving as senior executives of successful businesses.

"These models failed to enter the entertainment industry due to a lack of talent and popularity. Some of them were involved in prostitution and contacted clients through WeChat," said Shandong police officer Lin Zhiqiang. Lin added that the clients of the alleged prostitutes are typically rich people and senior company officers.

The 2013 lifestyle and yachting trade show wherein Sun allegedly earned 600,000 yuan has become known as the Hainan Sex Scandal, and it took place during the annual Hainan Rendez-Vous exhibition. Sun and her companions allegedly engaged in drug and sex parties.

Sun is also known online by the name "Linda."

Online reports in April 2013 claimed that one female model earned around 600,000 yuan in three days, with over 2,000 condoms having been used at the party. There were also reports of illegal drugs being used.

Netizens have since exposed Sun as having been born male. According to a CCTV report, Sun's ID card says she is Luo Yue from Hebei Province.
