The next phone from Sony will reportedly not be announced six months immediately after the Xperia Z5.

The Sony Xperia Z5 handset currently dominates the list of top smartphone cameras this year, ahead of Apple's recently released iPhone 6S, according to tests conducted by image quality firm DXO Mark.

The Sony Xperia Z5 earned 87 points out of 100, while the iPhone 6S earned 82 points out of 100.

The Xperia Z5 comes with a powerful 23 megapixels rear-facing camera along with a 5.1 megapixels front-facing camera. The phone is also accompanied by Sony's hybrid autofocus technology that enables the camera to focus in just 0.03 seconds, Tech Radar reported.

On the other hand, Apple's iPhone 6S comes with a 5 megapixels front-facing camera and a 12 megapixels rear camera with dual-LED flash and phase detection autofocus feature. A number of new Android devices have also surpassed the iPhone 6S in camera tests, such as Samsung's latest Galaxy S6 Edge, which earned 86 out of 100 points.

Other Android devices that made it to the list include the Google Nexus 6P, LG G4, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Motorola's Moto X Style, which was launched last September.

Japanese tech giant Sony recently launched its Sony Xperia Z5 smartphone this month, after unveiling it during the IFA 2015 event in Berlin, Germany in September.

Specs-wise, the Sony Xperia Z5 sports a 5.2-inch IPS LCD display screen with a 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. Inside, the phone packs a Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable internal memory, and a 2900 mAh battery, according to GSM Arena. The Z5 can be expanded up to a whopping 200GB via microSD card.
