The "Power Rangers" movie is being developed by Lionsgate, and from what we have come to understand, the film has found its Black Ranger in the form of Ludi Lin.
Lionsgate made the big announcement via its Twitter and Instagram pages on Thursday. Lin is the third actor cast in the modern Power Rangers film after Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger and Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger.
We know little of the actor, so it's hard to tell if he is right for the role. What we do know is that he played a prominent magician in a film called "Monster Hunt." The movie was a huge success in China, but despite that fans should not expect it to launch in the States or anywhere outside of Asia.
The new "Power Rangers" movie is a reimagining of the 1995 hit, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. That film was about a group of 5 teenagers who were given powers to save the world from evil aliens. The actors of that film were the same from the TV series that became a massive culture phenomenon.
Over the years, we have seen several take of the "Power Rangers" on TV, though all of them have managed to keep the same feel fans have come to love since the inception of the show. We suspect Lionsgate is moving in the same direction where the film is concerned, but that is something we could be wrong about.
It is clear that some fans would want to see a dark take on the Power Rangers, but it would not be in Lionsgate best interest to venture down this route right now, or probably ever with this property.
