"The Flash" executive producer Andrew Kreisberg recently opened up about their decision to reveal that Iris West (Candice Patton) has a sibling.

On Tuesday night's "The Fury of Firestorm" episode, Iris found out that her mom Francine (Vanessa Williams) has another son.

Although it is still unclear whether or not the father of Francine's son is Joe (Jesse L. Martin), Kreisberg revealed that everything has been planned out very early on in the season.

According to Design N Trend, Francine's son is Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale), who will appear in the upcoming episodes of "The Flash" season 2.

"We always hated on TV shows that it's year two and somebody's like, 'Well, Cousin John's coming!' And it's like, 'Oh, good ol' Cousin John!' who no one ever mentioned before. It was always weird. The notion that they don't know Wally was sort of where that came from and then that was the idea that Francine was still alive and then that whole storyline," Kreisberg told IGN.

Meanwhile, the executive producer also explained on how Francine and Joe's revelation would impact the character in the upcoming episodes.

"Iris is now in the position that Barry was in last year - she's keeping a secret to protect somebody and she's going to find that, for all of her anger at Barry and Joe from last year, keeping this secret is not going to be so easy and it's going to be weighing on her before she finally decides to take some action in an upcoming episode," he said.

"The Flash" season 2 airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
