China's biggest smartphone manufacturer Huawei Technologies recently announced that it is hiring a new interface design executive. Huawei's new executive Abigail Brody previously worked with notable tech giants such as Apple and eBay.

Brody worked for Apple for at least a decade before deciding to transfer to eBay. Before joining the Huawei, Brody worked as a design strategy consultant for several top technology brands. Brody left Apple in 2011 and was part of the team that designed the iOS 1 for the very first iPhone.

Many tech analysts consider Huawei's decision to hire Brody as a strategic move as the company is slowly entering the ranks of Samsung and Apple when it comes to the smartphone market. Huawei showed consistent growth over the years in terms of smartphone unit sales. The company even managed to overtook its native rivals Xiaomi and Lenovo.

A recent market analysis report published by IDC shows that Huawei is in the third spot in terms of worldwide smartphone unit sales, gobbling up 7.5 percent of market share. Samsung still emerges on top of everybody with 23.8 percent market share and Apple sits in second place with 13.5 percent market share. The report also reveals that Huawei beat all smartphone manufacturers in terms of year-on-year growth, posting a massive 60.9 percent annual growth rate, according to The Verge.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Huawei is praised by many tech analysts for releasing affordable smartphones that can easily rival those from Apple and Samsung in terms of hardware specs. On the other hand, analysts regarded Huawei's software and user interface to be subpar compared to its close contemporaries. Huawei is expecting to upgrade this aspect of its product with the recent hiring of Brody.
