Star Wars Celebration 2015

Producers of blockbuster movies usually offer merchandise to boost further their income from the film. However, one of the most expensive souvenirs for the forthcoming "Star Wars" franchise is now available for pre-order.

Thetechbulletin reports that the R2-D2 mini fridge, manufactured by Haier Asia, could be pre-ordered now at $8,000. The high price tag is because the device comes with a remote control to make the robot walk. Lazy or tired owners would appreciate having the mini ref come to them instead of them walking to the refrigerator to get a cold can or bottle.

However, the mini fridge has limited space and could accommodate only few items such as cans or bottles.

It is not just mobility that the mini fridge offers. The AQUA R2-D2's head rotates and comes with authentic sound and light effects similar to the original "Star Wars" robot.

Haier Asia, which has a tie-up with Walt Disney, will begin delivery in December, in time for the showing of "Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens" during the yearend holidays. However, shipment would only be in Japan for the meantime.

Since the Christmas holidays are time for travel, those who have bookings overseas might be flying to another country where the film might not be shown yet when it premieres in theaters on Dec. 18.

Passengers of Air France, however, could watch the movie on Dec. 16, two days before the official release. The air carrier and EuropaCorp Cinemas will show the movie on that date on four Air France planes that fly from New York and San Francisco, and Los Angeles on Dec. 15, reports Metro.
