"The Mindy Project" season 4 episode 10 saw Mindy determined to sell off her apartment, by hook or by crook. The Hulu show featured Mindy (Mindy Kaling), Peter (Adam Pally), Danny (Chris Messina), Peter's wife Lauren (Tracey Wigfield) and a new acquaintance James (Steven Weber).
"The Mindy Project" season 4 episode 10 started with a distress phone call between Danny and Mindy wherein the former informs the latter that he is not returning soon and will not be home until Christmas.
While Mindy moans at the thought, Danny reminds her that she still needs to sell off her apartment. Mindy feels conflicted about selling her apartment but still she gets down to the task and decides to hang up her open house flyer at an exclusive place to attract rich potential buyers.
Mindy walks in Mercer Street Club and tries to convince the snooty receptionist by saying her finace would have been taking care of this but he is "gone now." Her conversation is overheard by a widower named James who misunderstands that Mindy is a widow.
James approaches Mindy and helps her out in attaching flyers. He also shows up at her open house and even finds a buyer who offers 10% above the buying price as he is too sympathizing with Mindy, who in turn keeps mum and does not disclose her true relationship status.
Peter confronts Mindy and asks her to come clean about her non-widow status. But when he learns that James is the executive creative director of Nike, he too jumps in and declares that his wife is dead. James is throwing a party with some NBA players and the Knicks City Dancers and invites Mindy and Peter too.
At the party, James tries to kiss Mindy when she stops him in time and discloses the existence of Danny after which everybody is shocked to learn that she'd pretend her fiancé had died simply to sell her apartment. She leaves in a huff while Peter stays on at the party.
Lauren turns up at Mindy's place and is not happy about the fact that she is declared dead in social media. The situation leads to a bigger argument wherein Peter and Mindy accuses each other of not making the decision of their relatioships.
Mindy decides to confront Mindy over his hiatus and picks up the phone to dial his number. As the phone starts ringing, Danny's cell ringtone ""Fat-Bottomed Girls" can be heard playing in the hallway. The episode ends before it can be revealed whether Danny has actually returned back to her or she is just imagining.
