South Korean People React To News Of Jang Song Thaek Execution

The North Korean government issued a new order that required all males in the country with long hair to trim it to only a maximum of 2 centimeters, or 0.8 inch, in length.

The style must also copy that of their leader, Kim Jong-un, reports Chosun Ilbo, a newspaper in South Korea. The hairstyle is a swept-back bouffant combed upwards from shaved patches above the ear.

For women, they must copy the bob hairstyle of Ri Sol-ju, Kim's wife. Exempt from the order are male and female performers.

To enforce the order, authorities have deployed monitors armed with scissors and the power to cut the hair of violators of the order. As a result of the order - which appears to be a year old, based on YouTube reports - beauty salons and barber shops in the country are enjoying a boom as North Koreans attempt to follow the dictator's decree, reports News.com.au.

The hairstyle of Kim follows that of his grandfather, Kim Il-sung, known as the founder of North Korea. Based on photos of his younger days, Kim has adopted that hairstyle of shaved sides of the head. The hairstyle order's objective is to get young people to look good for the seventh yearly gathering of the Workers Party, according to a think tank that monitors Pyongyang, reports The Telegraph.
