The highly anticipated "Gravity Falls" season 2 finale is slated to premiere early 2016. Titled "Weirdmageddon 3," show creator Alex Hirsch explained that that the episode will not attempt to answer every question about the show to provide a leeway for future projects.
On his Tumblr page, Hirsch explained that it was purely his decision to end the show, adding that it has not been cancelled contrary to early reports. He pointed out that he has always envisioned the series to be about one epic summer. He explained that he wanted to provide a satisfying conclusion for all the characters.
Hirsch, however, admitted that they will not be able to answer all of the questions surrounding "Gravity Falls." Given that there are several theories made by fans, he pointed out that it will be impossible to satisfy each one of them.
"Will every single conceivable question ever thought of about Gravity Falls be answered in the end? Of course not. But that just leaves some material for any potential Gravity Falls projects in the future...(including the canon Journal #3 that goes on sale in 2016)," he said.
Although Hirsch is open to the possibility of having collaborations in the future, the showrunner explained that even before they started season 2, they know that it will be their last season. He said that he was restricted from revealing this information, as the network thought that he will eventually change his mind.
"Gravity Falls" season 2 finale titled "Weirdmageddon 3" will air sometime in early 2017, between January to March.
