Disney's "Gravity Falls" will be ending after season 2 to the disappointment of fans. Series creator Alex Hirsch confirmed the news early this week, explaining that the show is not being cancelled, but just being finished.
Although Hirsch explained that it was 100% his decision to end the show, a Reddit theory, via Wired, speculated that some fans' "obsessive" nature had something to do with the show's early demise.
"The fans' obsessive deconstruction gave them too much insight about the show's ultimate twist, so Hirsch himself decided to cut short what was originally meant to be a longer series," it posted.
It was, however, also held that Hirsch's grueling schedule, producing, writing and starring on the show, may have also been a factor. This is not the first time that a series has been cancelled only after one or two seasons by Disney, Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon.
What sets "Gravity Falls" aside, however, is its appeal to viewers of all ages. The outlet further pointed out that Disney seemed to fail at handling animated series that also appeal to an older audience.
For instance, Emmy winning show "Tron: Uprising" was cancelled after only 19 episodes. In spite of its stellar cast, Elijah Wood, Mandy Moore and Nate Corddry among others and rave reviews from critics, it jus did not pan out. It was said that the network just does not seem to have a grasp of how to handle a show like "Gravity Falls." This is such a shame given how the show is currently among its top rated programs.
