Plans For 'Ant-Man And The Wasp’ Revealed

Evangeline Lilly plays the Wasp in Peyton Reed's "Ant-Man and the Wasp."

Marvel Studios shuffled its calendar to add a few more films in the Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The lineup now includes "Ant-Man and The Wasp," the sequel to the highly successful "Ant-Man" featuring Paul Rudd as Scott Lang.

The release of "Ant-Man and The Wasp" is still two years away, but director Peyton Reed recently teased a few plans for the sequel.

Reed told Comic Book Resources that some aspects of the original film will carry over the tone of the sequel. He said, "For 'Ant-Man and the Wasp,' we have an entirely different template. We know what that template is, and we have an entirely different genre template for that movie."

Additionally, Reed said that they want "Ant-Man" scriptwriter Adam McKay to return and write the sequel. However, Reed said that McKay's involvement will largely depend on the writer's schedule. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, McKay was noncommittal in returning for the "Ant-Man" sequel. For now, McKay is busy promoting "The Big Short," which is a possible Oscar contender.

Meanwhile, in an interview with USA Today, Reed also emphasised that the "Ant-Man" sequel will be very different from its predecessor.

"We're going to do some very, very different things in the next movie. There's some very weird stuff in store for these characters," he added.

In the same interview, Reed said that Hope Van Dyne's story as The Wasp is just as important as the origin story of Ant-Man.

"Part of thing that we're going to explore, as shown in the comics, is how [the Ant-Man and Wasp] are such a great duo and partnership."

Reed took the helm from Edgar Wright to direct the first film of the franchise when the latter left the project due to "creative differences" with the studio.
