"Ant-Man and the Wasp" is set to put the Wasp in a pivotal role, according to Director Peyton Reed.

In his interview with Yahoo, Reed said that last line of Evangeline Lilly's Hope van Dyne in "Ant-Man," "It's about damn time," was very much about her specific character and arc in that film; however it was definitely about a larger thing. The director also said that fans were going to see a "fully realized, very very complicated superhero" in his next film who happened to be a woman.

In Reed's "Ant-Man," Hank Pym unveiled to van Dyne an upgraded Wasp suit for her to use, an indication that "Ant-Man and the Wasp" was being set up, according to Cinema Blend. Van Dyne played a crucial role in "Ant-Man" by helping Scott Lang break into Cross Industries and defeat Darren Cross, also known as Yellowjacket.

The Wasp gains unique powers, such as the ability to change her size at will, to shoot energy beams or "Wasp Stings," to fly with her newly gained wings, and to order wasps in times of need. For the time being, the Wasp is the third female superhero in Marvel's Cinematic Universe to be introduced on the big screen, after Black Widow and Scarlet Witch.

Ant-Man is also set to be part of Captain America's team, along with Hawkeye, Falcon, and Agent 13. They will be against Iron Man's team, which reportedly includes Black Widow, War Machine, The Vision, and Black Panther. The Wasp's inclusion in the film is yet to be revealed. Spider-Man is also set to appear in the film; however, no information yet as to which side he is in.

Reed's "Ant-Man and the Wasp" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on July 6, 2018 while the Russos' "Captain America: Civil War" is set to hit theaters on May 6, 2016.
