Conor McGregor Joins Ronda Rousey on EA’s ‘UFC 2’ Cover After UFC 194 Win

Conor McGregor wins a spot on EA Sports' "UFC 2" cover alongside Ronda Rousey after winning the UFC 194.

Irish mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor is joining Ronda Rousey on EA Sports MMA fighting video game “UFC 2” cover after winning the UFC 194 against Jose Aldo on Dec. 12, Saturday.

McGregor was one of the cover models EA Sports was considering, together with his opponent, Brazilian Jose Aldo, both of whom highlighted the UFC 194.

EA Sports announced earlier in the month the second edition of its MMA fighting video game would feature whichever fighter won the UFC Featherweight Championship at the Las Vegas MGM Grand Arena. The announcement marked the first time an actual sporting event affected the cover of one of the developer’s video games.

McGregor, who took centerstage at the fight from the beginning, landed a left hook on Aldo’s chin that knocked him out in the octagon in a bout that lasted a total of 13 seconds, Washington Post reported.

The brief fight set a UFC record for the fastest knockout in a title bout, beating Rousey’s 14-second mark when she beat Cat Zingano during the UFC 184 in February. McGregor admitted his opponent was fast and powerful, but he channeled his own precision and timing to beat Aldo’s power and speed.

Following the official announcement of McGregor’s championship, EA posted its official cover on its Twitter feed, placing the fighter’s image alongside Rousey, the former UFC Bantamweight women’s champion.

The cover image garnered a considerable mix of comments, including why Rousey was featured instead of current UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion, Holly Holm, who defeated Rousey at the UFC 193 in November, Cinema Blend reported.

MMA fighting video game “UFC 2” is expected to be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the spring of 2016.
