J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens” premiered on Dec. 18 in the United States.

The awakening of the Force cannot be stopped as J.J. Abrams' space sci-fi film "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" continues to dominate the box office last weekend, beating James Cameron's "Titanic".

After its release on Dec. 18 in 4,134 theaters, "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" grossed more than $740 million in the United States and more than $770 million in other countries, which sum up to more than $1.51 billion on a global scale. The film's local gross just beat the $658 million domestic lifetime gross of Cameron's romance film, as per Box Office Mojo.

Given the "one is to one" sales record ratio of "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens," it is notable that Cameron's "Titanic" and "Avatar" have a two to one ratio of sales when it comes to international and domestic sales.

"Titanic" had more than $1.5 billion globally and more than $658 million locally while "Avatar" grossed more than $2 billion globally and more than $760 million locally. It is assumed that "Star Wars" has not fully touched the Chinese market, resulting to the aforementioned sales figures.

Despite its one is to one sales ratio, "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" topped the box office for Jan. 1 to Jan. 3, with a weekend gross of more than $88 million.

The space sci-fi film stayed at number one while Sean Anders' comedy film "Daddy's Home" ranked second with a $29 million and Quentin Tarantino's western genre film "The Hateful Eight" landed at the third spot with more than $16 million.

According to Cinema Blend, Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" made the largest domestic total of all time in box office history. While most films lose their place at the box office quickly after their massive openings, Abrams' film seems to be an exemption with its low 40 percent drop each weekend.

"Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" is set 30 years after the events in the "Return of Jedi," the film also stars Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, Max von Sydow, Simon Pegg, Oscar Isaac, and Domhnall Gleeson, among others.

Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" is still showing in theaters.
