Former National Basketball Association player Jamaal Franklin was named the Chinese Basketball Association Player of the Week for the season's round 29 after he tallied a triple-double of 44 points, 10 rebounds, and 20 assists in the Shanxi Brave Dragons 133-123 win over the Jilin Northeast Tigers on Sunday, Jan. 10.
The award was given and reported by Asia-basket even if the game was said to be "meaningless" when it comes to its effect in the overall standings. Shanxi maintained its 11th spot in the league table with a win-loss record of 14-16 while Jilin is still at 18th with a 7-23 slate, via Sofa Score.
Franklin was a second-round pick, 41st overall, by the Memphis Grizzlies during the 2013 NBA Draft, playing 21 games for the Grizz in the 2013-2014 season but only in limited minutes.
The 24-year-old shooting guard then had a brief spell with the CBA's Zhejiang Lions in 2014-2015, appearing in 26 games for the squad from October 2014 to January 2015. His most notable game during that time period was a 53-point performance on 19-of-29 field goal shooting in a 120-112 victory against the Chongqing Flying Dragons.
In January 2015, the former San Diego State standout suited up for the NBA Developmental League's Los Angeles D-Fenders before being signed by the Denver Nuggets in April of the same year. However, he was released by the Nuggets in July 2015 after playing in only three games for the squad.
After going on another brief stint with the D-Fenders last month, Franklin was signed by the Brave Dragons on Dec. 18.
