Interesting Alipay data released by Ant Financial states that the financial arm of Alibaba has revealed Shanghai as the greediest city of China.
The facts revealed that 65 percent of the transaction made through Alipay in the year 2015 were made through mobile, which shows a significant increase as compared to transactions made in 2014. The data also revealed that the western provinces of China are the most mobile friendly areas with Tibet being an example, doing 83.3 percent of the business made via mobile through Alipay.
Other provinces to record very high mobile numbers included Guizhou, Qinghai, Shaanxi and Gansu. But what was most interesting is the data released by Ant Financial, which revealed that the total spending award was bagged by Alipay users in Shanghai, recording a whopping per capita of RMB 104,155.
The rest of the top five spenders were Zhejiang, Beijing, Jiangsu, and Fujian, respectively. With this, Shanghai broke the RMB 100,000 barrier for which it is being named as the greediest city in China.
There were more interesting Alipay data revealed which confirmed that Shanghai's Alipay users were the hungriest in 2015 ordering food via Alipay more than other provinces in China. Developed cities like Wuhan, Bejing, Shenzhen and Guangzhou trailed slightly behind, where Alipay users spend RMB 30 on average for ordering meals. The major trend of the year was ordering delivery from O2O food providers.
With exchanging virtual cash envelopes becoming the trend this year, all eyes are on who will be sending the most numbers of digital red envelopes, with the holidays around for the Spring Festival.
The news is that Hangzhou and Zhangzhou are expected to be making the biggest haul, going by the records of the highest per capita made by these two small cities. Weifang, Wenzhou and Putian are the other cities who were found to be generous.
