Former NBA player Will Bynum led the sixth-running Guangdong Southern Tigers to a 101-84 battering of the league-leading Xinjiang Flying Tigers in a round 31 game of the 2015-2016 Chinese Basketball League season held at the Dongguan Arena in Dongguan, Guangdong, China on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old Bynum, an eight-year NBA veteran and two-time CBA All-Star who is currently on his second stint with Guangdong, recorded a double-double of 20 points and 11 assists while also contributing seven rebounds and four steals to spearhead the Tigers' attack to its visitors, as per Asia-Basket.
Bynum was an undrafted player in the NBA in 2005 and played for the Golden State Warriors during his 2006 rookie season. He moved to the Israeli Basketball Premier League later that year to suit up for Maccabi Tel Aviv until 2008.
After that, he came back to the NBA and played six NBA seasons for the Detroit Pistons, his most productive years in the world's top professional basketball league.
From there, Guangdong first signed him in December 2014 as a replacement for the injured Emmanuel Mudiay, who is now a rookie in the NBA for the Denver Nuggets. He played for the Tigers for four months before being signed by the Washington Wizards in March of last year.
In August 2015, he was brought back by Guangdong to the CBA, joining a Tigers squad that finished number one in the regular season during the 2014-2015 CBA season.
The Southern Tigers dominated the whole first half, kicking off with a 28-20 first quarter attack and finishing with a 53-40 advantage at halftime, via Sofa Score.
Xinjiang managed to trim the gap at the end of the third period, 77-70, after a 30-24 rally in the quarter, but Bynum sparked a 24-14 run in the final period to seal the blowout win.
Guangdong is at the sixth spot of the current league table with 53 points and a record of 22-9, now just three points behind the still league leaders Flying Tigers.
Another former NBA player, power forward Yi Jianlian, also had a double-double, firing 26 points and grabbing 11 rebounds during the contest. American-Filipino Andray Blatche, also a former NBA player, led Xinjiang with 24 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists in a losing effort.
