Virtual reality is expected to grow in popularity and may possibly replace televisions, eventually. Since most of people's attention has been drawn to the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, here is the comparison of these VR headsets.
- Design
The Oculus Rift is already out on pre-orders especially with its finalized design; however, this is not the case for the HTC Vive, as it has only been launched as the Vive Pre for developers. Hence, it is more likely that its design will change before it is out commercially.
Presently, the main difference between the two VR headsets is that, the Vive offers a front-facing camera where gamers can move, especially when they are using the headset. They can actually see the real objects inside the room, which protects them from bumping into objects. They can even search for things or controls with the headset on. As to its weight, both headsets are quite large, but it is expected that their makers will try to slim them down before they are commercially offered in the market. Users can also wear glasses while wearing the headsets.
- Specs
To make use both headsets, users will need to secure top-of-the-line computers. However, there is no specification given yet on what are the compatible requirements in using the HTC Vive. Those who want to invest in the Oculus Rift, they will need a computer using an Intel processor with an 8GB of RAM.
- Sensors
Both headsets offer a gyroscope and accelerometer. The Oculus Rift offers a magnetometer and a 360-degree tracking, while HTC Vive has a front-facing camera with laser position sensor.
- Price
The Oculus Rift is priced at $600. No price is revealed yet for the HTC Vive.
