Broadway star Lea Salonga gave boxing champ Manny Pacquiao an advice about judging for Miss Universe 2015, ABS-CBN News reported.
Salonga was also a judge at the 2014 Miss Universe and the singer said she thinks Paccquiao will do a great job. The singer shared her experience in being a judge by saying that it made her really "objective." A judge has to be "nitpicky" and observant with the contestants' overall package.
According to Salonga, judging should not be based on the general looks but in every aspect of the contestant. The task is not easy since it is highly different from what is seen on television.
Pacquiao is one of the panelists for this year's pageant and he revealed that he thinks Miss Philippines Mary Jean Lastimosa will do well in the event. Lastimosa was flattered by Pacquiao's comment and said that it is a "huge compliment" for her especially from someone who is considered as a hero of the country.
Although a fellow Filipino will be a part of the panelists, Lastimosa thinks the results will be fair for everyone. The beauty queen expressed that performance is important and any judge will vote on a competitor who deserves the crown.
Anyhow, Pacquiao's presence at the pageant is an inspiration for Lastimosa. The boxing title holder is a living legend for the Filipino people since he never gave up on his dreams and Lastimosa admires his personality.
Pacquiao's journey is showcased in the documentary entitled "Manny." The boxer grew up in a poor family and used his boxing skills to earn money for food and daily needs. Due to his perseverance, Pacquiao slowly rose to fame and gained several world titles in different weight categories, New York Times reported.
"Manny" is narrated by Liam Neeson and personalities such as Jimmy Kimmel, Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell were featured in the documentary. The film opens on Friday at the Gateway.
