The Detroit Pistons and Brooklyn Nets are reportedly discussing a potential trade involving Brandon Jennings and Thaddeus Young that could happen before the Feb. 18 NBA trading deadline.
Sheridan Hoops' Chris Sheridan reported the abovementioned scenario, mentioning that the 26-year-old Jennings had always been "a starter most of his career but is currently stuck behind Reggie Jackson on Detroit's depth chart".
The report also said that Brooklyn "is one of the teams with the biggest need at point guard after losing Jarrett Jack for the season to a knee injury", which makes them keen on snagging the Pistons' young veteran floor general.
Jennings is coming off an Achilles tendon injury that required surgery to repair. He went under the knife in January of last year and came back twelve months later, volunteering to suit up for D-League squad Grand Rapids Drive to help prepare him for eventual NBA competition.
He returned to the Pistons' lineup on Dec. 29 and had played only 16 minutes, firing seven points and dishing out four dimes as a substitute to Jackson in a 108-96 loss to the New York Knicks.
Jennings has played 20 games now this season for head coach Stan Van Gundy, averaging in points and assists at 6.9 and 3.3 per game in only 17.6 minutes of playing time a night. He is also contributing 2.2 rebounds, but shooting a measly 36.6 percent from the field and 30.8 percent from the three-point line.
Meanwhile, Young is one of the best players in the current Nets lineup and head coach Tony Brown may be hesitant to trade his young and energetic wing man. He is currently averaging 15.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 steals in 32.4 minutes per game as Brooklyn's starting small forward.
Young can also play at the number four spot in small-ball lineups and could greatly contribute to floor spacing and perimeter shooting, somewhat like that of Draymond Green's role in Golden State.
The biggest contribution of Young to the Pistons would be on the defensive end, though, as he is considered as one of the best wing defenders this season.
While rumors are loud regarding this potential deal, Van Gundy is furiously denying it, saying that the trade report is "made-up s--t", as per Bleacher Report.
