One of the several proposed trade scenario around the league could see two players meet their former coaches: Rudy Gay for Kenneth Faried.
After a few weeks of speculation, ESPN's Marc Stein confirmed sources that the Kings are "indeed willing to trade Rudy Gay."
Gay has been linked to several teams like the Los Angeles Clippers and the Miami Heat. But one team that should probably trade for Gay is the Denver Nuggets, who apparently is also gauging trade interest for Faried, according to Christopher Dempsey of the Denver Post.
"With a reasonable contract and a big impact on the court, there continue to be suitors for his services as his value remains high," Dempsey wrote. "He isn't officially on the trade block - never has been, really - but a 'too good to be true' offer might entice the Nuggets to pull the trigger on a deal."
Matt Moore of CBS Sports explored the possibilities of trading Gay for Faried, reuniting the two players with their former coaches Mike Malone of Denver and George Karl of Sacramento.
In the trade scenario presented by Moore, which succeeds ESPN's trade machine, the Kings send Gay to the Nuggets for Faried in a one-on-one deal.
According to Moore, the move would allow the Kings to form an elite frontcourt of Faried and DeMarcus Cousins, who are both familiar with each other during their stint with Team USA. Faried also had his best success under Karl's system on their time together in Denver.
Meanwhile, Moore noted that the Nuggets would get a go-to-scorer in Gay and an athletic small-ball four to pair with Danilo Gallinari.
However, Stein did mention that the Kings prefer a player that has one year left on his contract after this season, giving the Kings more cap flexibility in July.
According to Hoopshype of USA Today Sports, Faried's contract with the Nuggets would not expire until the 2018-2019 season, making him the unlikely candidate the Kings want for a trade. However, imaging a frontcourt tandem of Boogie and Manimal could be too enticing for the Kings to pass on.
