Producers Lantica Meida and Sobini Films have recently announced that a new "Zorro" movie, titled "Z," is currently in the works. The upcoming movie will be a new take on the popular masked hero, and Latino director Jonás Cuaron will be at its helm.
The film, which has been inspired by "The Mask of Zorro" and "The Legend of Zorro," will commence production in summer, The Warp reported.
The media outlet quoted Latin Media CEO Antonio Gennari as saying, "We are very fortunate to have Jonás on this film," adding, "His love for cinema is evident in his work and he is very talented in his ability to tell a compelling story. We look forward to seeing where his vision will take us."
In fact, Cuaron will be a vital aspect of the upcoming "Zorro" movie mainly owing to his remarkable directing skills. Moreover, Cuaron has a Hispanic heritage, which will be important for the new film.
Following his work in "Disierto," which won the International Critics Award at last year's Toronto Film Festival, Cuaron is being considered to be an exceptional director.
The publication quoted Sobini Films CEO Mark Amin as saying, "When I saw 'Desierto,' I was impressed with Jonás' command of action and suspense, his great visual eye, and the strong performances he elicited from his actors."
While the details of the upcoming movie "Z" have not been released by the producers yet, they confirmed that the initial filming will begin this summer. Moreover, the official release date of the film is yet to be announced, The Verge reported.
"Z" will be the third film in the "Zorro" series and it is in the works after a decade of the last film "The Legend of Zorro," which was released in 2005. The first film, "The Mask of Zorro"' was released in 1998. Both films starred Spanish actor Antonio Banderas and were huge box office hits.
