Women of China writer Su Honghua announced the "era of the she economy" on Friday in the wake of the publication of 360 Mobile Assistant's "2015 Green Book of Industrial Trends in China's Mobile Phone Applications."
The trend document's author, China's leading Android-based mobile-app store, revealed that female users of the Internet represented 47 percent of China's total in the third quarter of 2014.
The 2014 data shows an increase of 6 percent from the end of the previous year and, according to Su, "now more than ever, women are playing an important role in China's Internet economy."
The writer attributes the increasing prominence of Chinese females to improvements in overall income and quality of life that have occurred since the turn of the 21st century.
Su wrote that "women in China are now concerning themselves more with health, communication and general interests."
Due to the broadening of interests among women, technology companies have responded with a growing number of mobile-app options in areas such as shopping, health and photography. Mobile apps aimed at China's women have become increasingly popular since the current decade began, and include shopping-guide apps, maternity apps and health apps.
Photo-processing apps have also been frequently downloaded to satisfy the interests of those who are concerned with personal image.
Su also presented compelling Web-related data that reaffirms the actualization of the era of the "she economy." The China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) has published statistical information that indicates that female users account for 44.4 percent of China's netizens, while women are responsible for around 80 percent of consumer decisions in product lines such as clothing, tourism and maternal products.
