Following the 'Game of Thrones' Season 6 teasers it has provided earlier, HBO released this week 20 plus fresh screenshots that mostly depicted for GoT fans of the things to come. Familiar faces and names dominate the images save for one man that everyone is dying to see - Jon Snow. Is he really dead?
The collection of new pictures (viewable here) revealed and confirmed many things - that Sansa Stark and Theon Greyjoy are alive and on the run after the long jump from the Winterfell wall. And Ramsay Bolton, including his father Roose, will be out to hunt them down.
Also, Princess Myrcella, the only daughter of Cersei Lannister, is dead and her body is accompanied to King's Landing by Jaime Lannister. The pics suggested too that the Lannisters will fight a war on a new front - against the Martells.
Yet unsurprisingly, the HBO gallery of screenshots did not include Jon Snow, this despite the reports last year that actor Kit Harington (who plays Snow) was seen filming with the GoT cast. The omission is fully expected as showing off Jon Snow following his last image lying on a pool of blood will erase the lingering mystery of his apparent death at the hands of the Night Watch brothers.
All the same, while HBO is hard at work to sell the belief that Snow is gone for good the hope remains that the Stark warrior blood will still rise and exact revenge in the person of Jon Snow. The HBO screenshots point to a number of proofs that could increase the chance of the beloved GoT character reappearing in Season 6.
For one, the morally upright Ser Davos is part of the collection, showing him still in Castle Black and part of the upcoming season. Davos has previously proven that he will do the right thing even if it would mean disobeying his King. The Hand to Stannis Baratheon helped the bastard of King Robert to escape, sparing the boy from being burned alive on orders of Stannis. It should be easy for the former smuggler to do the same with Ned Stark's illegitimate son, that is if Jon Snow is discovered before bleeding to death.
Another likely savior of Jon Snow is Samwell Tarly. Last heard of Sam, he's on his way to Oldtown to make his dream come true of becoming a Maester. Sam is a trusted friend of Jon and might have gotten wind of the Night Watch plot to cut Snow into pieces. Fans could only hope that he had the sense to sneak back to The Wall and carry the wounded Snow back with him.
But the biggest shot of Jon Snow to be brought back to life, if indeed he was killed, is Lady Melisandre. The Red Woman was shown in the HBO pics seemingly recovered from the heartbreak of Stannis' defeat. Fans may recalls that a few hours prior to the attack on Snow, Melisandre returned to Castle Black and if by chance she found dying Jon Snow the red priestess can surely cure or bring the hero back to life.
If so, then the wild rumors could soon be seen on the screen - that come Season 6 of the Game of Thrones, Jon Snow will live, will be legitimized as Jon Stark and lead an army to drive the Boltons out of Winterfell.
