In terms of plot, “Skiptrace” which stars Chinese actor Jackie Chan and American actor Johnny Knoxville, appears to be a rehash of the usual detective movies with the bad guys getting someone related to the protagonist as their hostage.

Throw in an unusual combination of main characters, and the movie plot is ready to collect dollars at the box office as almost all of Jackie Chan movies did. Saban Films just acquired the U.S. rights to “Skiptrace,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Saban’s timetable is to show the movie about a Hong Kong detective, played by Jackie Chan, fighting a crime ring that got his goddaughter (played by Fan Binbbing), in Q3 2016, reported Variety. To help Chan rescue the damsel-in-distress is a glib American gambler, essayed by Knoxville.

The Renny Harlin-directed movie is guaranteed to be a wild adventure, Saban Films President Bill Bromiley said on Thursday. “Jackie Chan and Johnny Knoxville are both international sensations, and Renny Harlin’s smart yet fun approach to this big-budget action film brings a raucous force to the screen,” Bromiley explained in a statement.

The movie has seven producers, made of Chan, Esmond Ren, Damien Saccani, Charlie Coker, David Gerson, Dasym Media and Talent International Films. Ness Saban and Bromiley negotiated with the movie’s producers for the U.S. rights on behalf of Saban Films.

Besides “Skiptrace,” Saban Films holds the rights to “A Hologram to the King,” “The Trust,” “I Am Wrath, “ “USS Indianapolis” and “The Confirmation.”
