Sony has officially disclosed plans of seeding android 6.0 marshmallow update to its Xperia flagships starting early next month.
According to the Xperia Blog, Sony Mobile U.K. revealed that it will begin rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow update come March 7 for the Xperia Z5 series, Xperia Z4 and Xperia Z3+. However, Sony Mobile has not given official communication about the exact date and the information was only retrieved from a Sony representative.
In October 2015, Sony confirmed that its Xperia handsets were eligible for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade, Phones Review reported. Sony Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, and the Z5 Premium are currently in line with the software update. However, reports reveal that it has been a long wait for the other Xperia users and so the latest news is a glimmer of hope for them.
Initially, Sony had communicated on its official blog that it would make Android 6.0 accessible for devices such as: Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z2, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M5, Xperia M4 Aqua and Xperia C4. Many of the mentioned devices will reportedly skip the Android 5.1 update and directly embrace the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.
In October 2015, Sony Mobile went on to launch the Xperia Beta Program in order to test Android 6.0 Marshmallow. At the time, the tech giant only allowed 10,000 registered users to try out the new operating system and only Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact owners were authorized to join the Beta program.
The program was available in countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Latvia, Ireland, Estonia, and Lithuania. Later, however, more countries like Netherlands, Spain and Italy were included as Z2 owners joined the Xperia Beta program.
As Sony declared, the Beta program was initiated to help the Sony UI team to allow users try out the new Marshmallow OS overlaid with Xperia's software so that all bugs could be eliminated before the final upgrade. Evidently, the Xperia Beta program has already received an overwhelming response from the audience.
