The MWC 2016 has revealed what could prove as two of the best Android flagship phones to come out ever - the LG G5 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 (that will soon roll out with a more gorgeous twin, the Galaxy S7 Edge). As the makers of the two handsets have in the past worked with Google, it seems possible that they take on the same role. If so, which will make the better Google Nexus 2016?
For Samsung, which enjoys a considerable edge against its Korean rival, its history of collaborating with Google had produced three handsets that run on Pure Android. There was the Galaxy Nexus phone then the Nexus 10 tablet and a variant of the Galaxy S4 that was part of the Google Play Edition.
The company's Nexus/Google Play stint was nothing remarkable as the device maker made its name in the mobile device industry as the second best, next to Apple, with its Galaxy product lines.
Hands down, LG is a more memorable Google partner as the company successfully carved out a place into the Android world due to the beloved classic devices - the Nexus 4 and 5. Last year, LG cemented its place with the equally well-received Nexus 5X. LG also has gained traction in the industry with its G-series flagships that in many cases have been used as base-models for Google's signature phone.
So in terms of Nexus badge of honor, LG is easily the sentimental favorite. And Android fans cannot be blamed for picking the new LG G5 as the most solid candidate to become the next Nexus flagship phone, which BGR said is indicated in a new Reddit discussion thread.
And why not the LG G5 as the device is a package that screams both power and premium? The inside components are headlined by the much-hyped Snapdragon 820 but the real story about the device is its unique metallic body design and build. Early reviewers declared that the G5 will go down in history as the most innovative device this 2016, likely reason enough for Google to again entrust its Nexus baby at the hands of LG.
LG is reaping praises for its current opus, the LG G5, and the past masterpieces are equally impressive as well so Google can never go wrong.
But there's the Galaxy S7 from Samsung. It might be thin Nexus resume for the chief Apple rival but since the Galaxy S6 of last year the company has proven that it can go head-to-head with the seemingly invincible iPhone line up. The S6 won accolades for stuffing beauty, power and a killer camera in one device and the same applies to the Galaxy S7, only better.
Pitted against the G5, BGR said that "Android fans calling the Galaxy S7 the winner definitely seem to outnumber G5 supporters by a pretty wide margin," with the report citing the same Reddit thread. It should be safe to assume then that the same preference could easily extend to a Nexus 2016 that is built around on the Galaxy S7 that reflects of beastly handset capabilities and beautiful contraption.
But then again, Google has the last word on the matter on which between the two will end up as the better Nexus 2016 hero phone on release date. Or none of them at all as rumors say that Huawei, HTC and even Xiaomi remain strong contenders.
