Boston Globe writer Gary Washburn is predicting an offseason scenario, where Oklahoma City superstar Kevin Durant receives the fattest contract in NBA history.
"Yes, Durant has many options, and at age 27, his decision will be pivotal, considering he could garner the biggest contract in NBA history," said Washburn, who believes the huge jump in salary cap along with Durant's reputation as an elite player at his prime will eventually pave way for him to sign the richest contract ever.
At least seven teams are reportedly making their bid for Durant when he hits the free-agency market. Big market teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and the Miami Heat all have the salary space to sign the superstar, while Durant's hometown ballclub, the Washington Wizards, are also in contention.
Adrian Wojnarowski of the Vertical Yahoo Sports reported the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors have the highest chance of landing Durant in the event he leaves the Thunder this summer.
Durant, on the other hand, insisted that he hasn't decided yet on his plan this summer.
"I've never been through this before," Durant said in an interview with Washburn. "It's hard to know what's going to happen. You hear a lot, but I don't want to seek anyone out.
"Everybody's going to ask me, so of course I'm going to have to think about it now. To tell you one thing, it's great to feel wanted, I guess."
