No less than the 88th Oscar Best Actor awardee may come to China to promote his movie "The Revenant." Bona Film Group, promoter of Leo DiCaprio’s movie, said the actor is expected to arrive in China for the March 18 premiere of his film in the second-largest movie market in the world.
Besides the story about fur trapper Hugh Glass, another Oscar Best Film-nominee, “Room,” would also premiere in China on the same day. The two Hollywood movies are being promoted by Bona and Alpha Pictures, reported China Entertainment News.
Bona, which congratulated Leonardo on his win after several years of being a nominee for the Best Actor award, said the importer of “The Revenant” would be China Film Group Corporation. In turn, Huaxia Film Distribution will disseminate the movie across China.
Besides DiCaprio, Alejandro G. Iñarritu bagged the Best Director award and Emmanuel Lubezki the Best Cinematographer award. Although critics point out there are a lot of unrealistic scenes in the movie such as sleeping inside the dead horse corpse and elements not found in the book, many movie fans believe that DiCaprio deserved the win.
The book where the film was loosely based is also coming to the country, in the form of a Chinese edition of the original novel written by Michael Punke.
The other film, “Room,” is about a 5-year-old boy and his mother who were detained for seven years inside a closed space. Brie Larson, who played the leading role, bagged the Best Actress trophy, while the movie got four nominations. Other stars of “Room” are Joan Allen, Jacob Tremblay, Sean Bridgers and William H. Macy.
In her acceptance speech, Larsen said, “The thing I love about movie-making is how many people it takes to make it. Thank you to the moviegoers,” quoted The Guardian.
