Chandler Parsons has revealed that playing again for the Houston Rockets is an option he "definitely" would not count out amid rumors about the small forward's impending free agency.
Parsons seems decided to explore the free agent market in July and opt out of his three-year $46 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks. The 27-year-old said he is open to the possibility of returning to Houston and play for the Rockets once again.
"Houston was home for me for three years. I definitely would never count that option out. I have great memories there," Parsons said, reports Soundcloud.
"They have a great crowd, a great city to live in... I have nothing but respect and love for them. I would never count that out."
Tim MacMahon of ESPN reported that the Rockets are one of the many teams interested in pursuing Parsons in July.
Parsons started his career with the Rockets in the 2011-2012 season, when he played a limited role, while only scoring 9.5 points per game. But the versatile forward blossomed in his next two seasons with the Rockets, playing a total average of 36.9 minutes per game on a consistent output of 16.0 points.
After getting limited playing time with the Mavs early in the season following a minor hybrid microfracture surgery on his right knee last May, Parsons was able to finally be in top shape and has seemingly picked up the right time to get things rolling.
Parsons was adamant that his focus right now is helping Dallas, who currently sit sixth in the West with a 33-29 record, secure a playoff berth as he feels it would be "selfish" of him to already plan out his future with another team.
"My focus right now is solely on finishing this season as strong as possible with the Mavericks," Parsons said, reports ESPN.
"It'd be selfish of me and a disservice to this franchise and to my teammates to be thinking about this summer when we have a chance to do something special."
It would be interesting to see Parsons back with the Rockets playing beside James Harden once again. However, MacMahon did note that sources familiar with Parsons' thinking believes the 6-foot-10 wingman wants to play for a team where he has the "comfort and the best opportunity to reach his potential, which makes Houston unlikely with Harden expected to remain as the Rockets' main man.
