Perdue Foods LLC, a family-owned company that produces and distributes high quality processed chicken, turkey and pork, just recalled a massive 4,500 pounds of chicken nuggets for health and sanitary reasons.
The food company received complaints that their brand chicken nuggets have bits of plastic mixed into the favorite ready-to-fry product. The affected nuggets were the batch manufactured by Perdue Foods for Applegate Farms, Fox61 reported.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture also addressed the issue on Sunday, March 6, and subsequently announced the recall of sold chicken nuggets. The USDA Food Safety And Inspection unit further affirmed that the reason for the order to dispose the affected products was due to the discovery of plastics in it.
In a press release issued by the USDA, it formally informed the public that Perdue Foods LLC recalled the chicken products which they made for Applegate Farms brand, in their own accord. The notice included specific information about the recalled Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets.
It was stated that consumers who bought the product that was made on Sept. 28, 2015 and bearing the "Best Before Date" of Sept. 27, 2016 should get rid of the nuggets. Another thing to check in the box is the establishment no. of "P-2617."
These batch of products have been distributed in stores across New York, Florida, Indiana, Georgia, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Texas, so buyers must be aware of the recall if they bought the product in the mentioned areas.
The USDA also disclosed that the recall notice was issued after "the problem was discovered when the establishment received consumer complaints of small, solid, clear plastic inside the Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets."
The good thing about this incident is the fact that no one has ever been reported to have suffered from adverse effects or injury for eating the chicken nuggets. But for extra precaution, Applegate posted guidelines and Q&A page for instant answers to queries regarding the recall of their nugget brand.
Meanwhile, this is the second time in two weeks that a food product has been recalled. Last week, some batch of raw milk blue cheese were pulled out from stores for Listeria contamination. And fortunately, there was no report of illness or bacteria infection as a result of consuming the dairy product.
