Parents who find it difficult to control the excessive use of the Internet or phone by their young children often ground the kids from use or confiscate the gadget temporarily after scolding.
In Suzhou Province, Xiaopeng, an 11-year-old boy, was frequently scolded be his father for spending too much time on his smartphone, so what the techie kid did was cut off his left index finger.
Mashable reported that before the incident, Xiaopeng, upon waking up on Saturday morning, used the phone right away playing games and had been on it for hours. His parents felt that the boy would serve as a bad example to his younger 6-year-old brother. The mother also reminded Xiaopeng that he also has to help his younger sibling with homework.
But Xiaopeng replied that he helped his brother with homework last year, but this year, he would not, reported Sina News.
The mother complained Xiaopeng’s behavior to her husband, who in turn talked harshly to his son. There was a heated exchange of words, and the boy suddenly took out a knife from a low table behind him and cut his finger. The parents rushed the boy and his finger to Ruihua Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University where it took surgeons three hours to reattach the finger.
However, the doctors are not sure if the surgery is successful since it would take at least one week to find out, said Ren Zhourong, head surgeon. He added the fine blood vessels of Xiaopeng, as a young child, made it harder for the doctors to reattach his severed digit. If it is successful, the boy would likely be able to use his left hand with minimal damage.
Gamers are risking not only their fingers but also lives if they spend too much time playing games
