Speculations are rife that Samsung devices such as Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Note 4, S5, Note Edge, S6 Duos may not be getting the Android Marshmallow update at all, and will jump directly to Android N.
Samsung is taking its time to release the Android Marshmallow update for many of its high-end devices, which were released more than a year ago. On the other hand, the South Korean technology giant rolled out the next update in the series - Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow - for its recently released devices, such as the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and S6 Edge Plus. This was only released in its home country, and the global rollout is yet to begin.
Tech experts believe that it is not a surprise if Samsung skips the Android Marshmallow update entirely for Galaxy Note 4, Note 5, and S5, as these devices may directly get the upcoming Android N update upon its release in May.
Google will be launching its new operating system, the Android N, at the I/O 2016 developer conference, which is expected to take place between May 18 and 20. The developer preview of the new firmware is already released, according to Android Developers.
The beta version comes with features like multi-window access, direct reply notifications, efficiency and improved Java 8 language support, along with bundled notifications. Experts believe that since Google's new software always accompanies the release of a new Nexus smartphone or tablet, it could be a possibility that Android N will also release with the upcoming Nexus devices, which are expected to release in the third quarter of this year.
In light of these events, it is very unlikely that Samsung will roll out the Android Marshmallow update for its numerous high-end devices like the Galaxy Note 5, Note 4, S5, Note Edge, S6 Duos and a few others.
Samsung is speculated to release the Android Marshmallow update for the Galaxy A3, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy A8, Galaxy A7, Galaxy E7, Galaxy J7, Galaxy J5 along with Galaxy J2, according to GSM Arena. Android Marshmallow will enhance the usability factor and the battery life of the devices to a great extent.
