Fans of Square Enix's long-running series have reason to rejoice.
After rumors of Final Fantasy XV's release date being officially announced at an event on March 30, it appears that someone jumped the gun and leaked the news early. If reports are true, Final Fantasy XV will come out for the Playstation 4 and the Xbox One on September 30, sources say.
Game-making giant Square Enix has no comment on the matter and will neither confirm nor deny the news. It is expected to make an official announcement soon.
The news was first reported by Gematsu, who cited sources "who would have knowledge of the matter."
"Our sources in this case are reliable," said Gematsu. "However, given the sensitivity of the matter, and that within a company setting anything can change before it is made public, we're reporting this as a rumor until the release date is officially announced."
The move certainly comes as no surprise for Square Enix, who is known to release big titles just before the Christmas holidays where sales are expected to boom.
Final Fantasy XV is an upcoming action RPG scheduled for worldwide release this year. It is one of the most anticipated titles in recent memory, since being announced as in production years ago. It is the fifteenth iteration of the Final Fantasy series and was previously called Final Fantasy Versus XIII.
It was originally being developed for Playstation 3, but was later adapted for development on current generation consoles.
The game boasts of a massive, open-world environment and an action-based battle system similar to Kingdom Hearts, with a new added feature of being able to switch weapons and even vehicles, as well as the ability to set up camp.
For years, Final Fantasy titles have been hugely popular among video gamers. Final Fantasy VII is widely considered the best video game ever made.
On dates that previous titles have been scheduled to release, a massive gathering of video game aficionados have been known to queue outside of stores for days just to be the first to nab one of the first few copies of the game.
