Xiaomi unveiled its Mi Note phablet lineup in January 2015, and now that the long awaited Mi 5 iteration release is out of the way, the Chinese tech giant is likely to shift its focus towards the Mi Note 2. For now, Xiaomi has not said anything concerning Mi Note 2, but speculations have started hitting the internet.
While the company ditched the curved screen display technology for its flagship Mi 5 smartphone, there are high chances that the same will come to the Mi Note 2 phablet. According to Gizchina, like the Vivo Xplay5 Elite, the upcoming Mi Note 2 will sport Samsung's curved AMOLED display.
Vivo already joined the dual-curved screen bandwagon with Vivo Xplay5 Elite. The device has Samsung-made dual-edge curved 5.43-inch Super AMOLED display with a QHD 1440 × 2560 pixels resolution.
Chinese vendors including Huawei and Xiaomi have ordered for curved screen samples from Samsung Display, according to a report from ZDNet. The tech giants are likely to add the technology in their upcoming smartphones expected to launch this year.
Meanwhile, rumors have it that Apple might introduce a 5.8-inch iPhone along the way, which might ship with a curved display as well. Curved displays would eliminate side bezels on the iPhone and enable either special buttons or gestures that could serve as control functions on the iPhone using the sides of the gadget.
As a reminder, the original Xiaomi Mi Note has a 5.7-inch full-HD Sharp JDI display clocked at 1080 × 1920 pixels and offers a pixel density of 386ppi. The smartphone as well packs Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection. The device has a 2.5D front glass and a 3D glass at the back for protection.
Earlier this month, an insider unveiled that apart from HTC, other OEMs like Meizu, Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo are already working on future devices with 3D Touch display technology. Gionee already launched its S8 phone with 3D Touch technology during the MWC 2016, while Huawei defeated Apple when it introduced pressure-sensitive smartphone displays with its Mate S at IFA 2015.
