“No Other Love” is a milestone in the career of Chinese actress Zhao Wei. It is not just her second directorial assignment, but it is also the second time she collaborates with famous screenwriter Li Qiang.
Li also wrote the screenplay for “So Young,” Zhao’s directorial debut. It was based on best-selling novel and had box office receipts of more than $118 million, even if the producers spent only $5 million on the film, reported China Entertainment News.
"No Other Love," which had an opening ceremony in Beijing, is about a plant expert who gained courage anew to begin a love affair with a middle-age scholar. The cast is still unannounced, but there are reports that say the lead roles would go to actress Yuan Quan and director-actor Leon Dai.
Zhao became famous when she portrayed the role of Xiaoyanzi in “My Fair Princess,” a hit TV series. After that, she starred in many hit movies and even got several top acting awards. She decided to become a director in 2012.
Besides her acting and directorial career, Zhao and her husband, Huang Youlong, were ranked 35th on the list of super-rich people aged 40 and below in a list compiled by Hurun Report magazine. Their wealth is estimated at $1 billion.
Their fortune mostly came from owning shares in Alibaba Pictures, a Hong Kong-listed movie production house, and owned by Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba. They have a 1.67 billion stake in Alibaba Pictures, reported the South China Morning Post.
