Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has confirmed that the 140-character limit of Twitter will be kept. He also said that the social media will have changes soon in the future.
Dorsey appeared on "The Today Show" to discuss the new development. However, the CEO having a change of heart does not seem to be convincing, according to Tech Crunch.
The Twitter CEO said the 140-character limit is "a beautiful constraint" and that the social media will never lose that kind of limit. He added that there will be feature changes in the future soon except for the character limit.
It was previously reported that the social media company was actually considering expanding its tweet character limit to as many as 10,000 characters, according to Forbes. Many Twitter users were concerned and even angry because it might remove the unique personality of the social media platform.
Dorsey was quick to respond to these allegations and addressed them right away. Twitter is going to have new features in the future but it will be consistent with how the users want to use its services. He instead suggested that text can be searched and highlighted because it had more utility and power.
Since his takeover in July 2015, the new Twitter CEO has always stated that he is committed to make new changes in the social media platform and to make it much easier for people to use. He also wants it to be available for the general public and not just for the fans.
Twitter's development and changes are important for them but has been struggling to turn around the slow user growth. There are about 305 million active users today in the company's recent report for the fourth quarter, which was a drop from its 307 million active users last third quarter.
Meanwhile, Dorsey also talked about Twitter's 10-year anniversary, which will be on March 21, Monday. He explained that Twitter is the easiest way to see what is currently happening in the world right now. He added that their social media has many purposes and it is a fundamental service.
